With the area of 1,103.20 km2, and population of approximate 126,514 people, the district has the biggest area in the province and located in Northeast of the province; adjoining to Mi Mot district, Kong Pong Cham province, Kingdom of Cambodia with the border length of 47.5 km; 30 km away from Tay Ninh City following Provincial Road No. 785 route connecting with main and auxiliary border gates and Provincial Road No. 792 and Provincial Road No. 794 (proposed to upgrade to National Highway), connecting the trade exchange with Binh Phuoc Province and Tan Bien district.
The geology in the district mainly consists of grey soil which is suitable for planting rubber trees, sugarcanes, cassava and big potential for developing forest and forestry products. Tan Chau has many stones which can be exploited for producing building materials: stone, letarit, kaolin; especially, with the existing reserves of limestone available in the district, Fico Cement Joint Stock Company has exploited and produced many kinds of cement to supply to the domestic and foreign construction markets.
The system of main border gates and auxiliary border gates is the opportunity for exploiting Cambodian market by road such as: Ka Tum Main border gate, Tong Le Chan main border gate, Vac Sa auxiliary border gate.
